WHY THE MANGROVES

Mangroves are the roots of the sea.

These beautiful ecosystems stabilize our coastlines and provide us with rich diversity and clean air.  These saltwater lovers protect our inland waterways from being contaminated with too much salinity. These complex root systems filter phosphates and nitrates that are carried by steams into the sea.

Nursery – Mangroves are the daycares for young sea life. Mangroves are great safe havens for young shrimps, crabs and other shellfish. It is estimated that 75 percent of commercially caught wildish most likely spent time in mangroves before reaching adulthood and heading out to sea. Mangroves work as a refugee for number of diverse sea animals.

Stable Coastline –Mangroves help stabilize our coastlines by preventing erosion and collecting sediments.

Mangroves work as a strong first line of defense for coastal communities against storm surges and rising sea levels.

Diverse Sea life – Mangrove host a rich diverse life and offer no limitations to the life that can flourish in such ecosystems.

They provide a habitat for thousands species of marine and land animals. Bacteria, barnacles, insects, birds, and many different sea animals. Mangroves are ideal nesting and resting sites for hundreds of shorebirds and migratory birds.  You can also find endangered species that take refuge in these beautiful ecosystems such as Ridley turtles and tree climbing fish.
